About

Laura grew up as a “theater kid” and a 2-time national speech champion—living out every high-schoolers dream. Not to mention memorizing Disney movies with her best friends.

When Laura was 22, she lost her older brother. Everything fell apart.

She turned toward art, theater, & writing as a way to sift through the detritus and connect with others. Laura learned how stories could become the threads that stitch our messy, imperfect human lives together.

Work

In 2015, Thomas wrote and performed a one-woman play in theaters, community centers, book stores, and high-school auditoriums across the U.S.

In 2019, Laura spoke at TEDxWomen in Denver, Colorado, sharing how art & community can transform grief.

Laura released her first book in 2019, The Magic of Well-Being, that brings together what she’s learned from mentors, wisdom teachers, wizards, and Disney characters into an easy-to-read guide for living a better life that has sold thousands of copies in 5 countries.

Laura’s work explores the human heart and spans creativity, grief, parenting, & how to find happiness in a deep acceptance of who we are.

Her online work has been read over 20,000 times with popular stories like “How to Write Like a Badass” and “The Year of One Hundred Failures” still being read hundreds of times a week.

Laura currently writes on Substack.

Craft Turned Profession

Over the last 8 years, Laura has worked with over 200 leaders, writers, and movement makers to help them transform their stories—and in the process, transform themselves. She’s written 12 books as a ghostwriter, co-writer, or story doula and edited over 200 books as a developmental editor.

In 2025, Thomas will launch The House of Belonging, a podcast & visual storytelling platform that helps people to live better lives.

Laura hosts Sacred Stories, an application-based, transformative writing workshop for powerful women ready to tell their stories and step into their true power as storytellers, thought leaders, & professionals.

Upcoming Work

Laura is currently writing The Zen Master with the Dragon Gate Tattoo (2025), a heartwarming & profound story chronicling over a decade of lessons with her Zen mentor, Flint Sparks. The book distills the wisdom of a master through everyday struggles of a young woman trying to make sense of the world.

Thomas is on draft 32 (ughhh) of All Roads Lead Here, a memoir about losing her brother and finding herself. She is developing a short-film screenplay, a reality TV show for streaming platforms, and a YA fiction novel.
